Scholarships

If, by reading this web site or borrowing a book, you have decided that the NEBADOR books are important to you, but you cannot afford to buy them, you may apply for a scholarship.

The most important requirement is that you write a thoughtful letter to the author now, and between each book. He will publish all or part of those letters on this page. The first letter must explain why you want to read the NEBADOR books, and each letter after that (to get the next book) must share some things you learned from the previous book.

The author will need a mailing address to send you the books, and the address you give him must be okay with a parent. The author will not use your address for any other purpose.

A picture of you, or your favorite anime character, or your dog, is required. It makes web pages more fun.

Mulan, 14, Japan
"It is not my real name but my mother will only let me do it if I use another name. My father lost most of his farm land to the contamination. We have one field left that is good. A teacher showed me this book but promised her copy to someone else. I want to learn every thing I can."

Scholarship approved, NEBADOR1PBMP + NEBADOR1DL sent October 2011

Spiderhawk, 13, North Caroline
"I really really want to read these books and learn the stuff in them. The only good teacher in my school has one. I love to lurk in the woods but I know I won't do that all the time. Can I please have a scholarship?"

Scholarship approved, NEBADOR1PBMP + NEBADOR1DL sent July 2011

Shadow, 15, Wyoming
"OK I'm game for a scholarship. Dont learn much in school--learn more by howling at the moon and walking with the buffalos. Sometimes i sit just off one of the hot spring paths and some tourist will get scared when they see me, think I'm a gost or something. A wise woman told me about these books. Not many people I trust but shes one. Using her email and address too. Theyd get lost my house. I'm not there much. Okay?"

Scholarship approved, NEBADOR1PBMP + NEBADOR1DL sent February 2011

"At first i didn't like it, read about half, threw it on a shelf. But it haunted me,kept calling to me, you know. so i read the end, then some more inside. My friend never asked me about it,i know why now. ok i've read it all 2x now. I like the stuff in the tunnels the most, ropes and stuff. the other stuff is pretty easy. the ethics is cool..never thot I'd say that. Can i have another book?"

NEBADOR2PBMP + NEBADOR2DL sent April 2011

"Book3 please! Ok I get it. if I keep being afraid to learn stuff i'll never be anything. Love sata and her thing with the ocean. Neti's a wimp, but finally grows a little bone. DO NOT expect me to learn trig but the rest is cool. i actually FELT the difference between heading and track on a little boat at camp."

NEBADOR3PBMP + NEBADOR3DL sent July 2011

"wow. That is so completly wonderful that those slave kids got the be the crew of a little star ship. I really tried to understand the logic stuff, sometimes i thot i did, then it slipped away. I'll keep trying. But it really touched me when they were finishing all their stories. Maybe i'm supposed to be a story teller. I know theres a writing contest. no that's too scary."

Tynesha, 24, Ontario
"My name is Tynesha and I am a 24 year old nursing student. ... I think this is a brilliant idea and I would love to be able to read the first book in your series (or even the first trilogy!). I am a lot older than the other scholarship winners and other readers I'm sure, but I love reading and I haven't read a great book in a long time. After reading the preview on Amazon.com, I just have to get a copy of the book to read the rest. "'You are my first contact in this land.' The rabbit raised its head for a moment, then went back to eating." This line made me laugh out loud because that is actually how my cats react when I speak with them! I hope you will consider me for your scholarship!"

Sean, 14, New Brunswick
"Ok I'm a citizen thing allready and I have book 1 but the wheels just came off our life and we live in a room at my uncles house now. Mom says theres no way she can order me books for a LONG time so Im wondering about the scolarship thing."

Scholarship approved, NEBADOR1DL sent November 2010

"I read the hole thing again and i'll never be very good at math and stuff but I love the zero tolrance idea when they go in the tunnels. I found an old book about rope tying and mt. climbing, and i want to learn it. I think what ilika did for buna is the coolist thing and i'd NEVER leave someone on my team behind. Hey I'm 15 now."

Jenny, 11-12, California

I almost fell in love with ilika when he stood in front of the horse witout freeking, than talked to the bunny NICELY. Can I PLEASE have a scolarship? my adress is [...] and mom says its ok. "I learned TONS of stuff in book1 and wrote something after every thing in the notes book. Had to ask my sister some words. i think i want to be a writer cause i loved it when they learned to read and about all the sounds. Following the maps is fun too. I think the baker is my favorite but i still like Ilika. He was so cool with Buna at the end! i just turned 12."

NEBADOR1DL w/Jenny's notes returned, NEBADOR2PBMP + NEBADOR2DL sent October 2010

"Oooo. Mati at the end made me cry. i could FEEL how much she wanted to be loved she just picked the wrong boy. i know a boy i want to marrie but he has to grow up first alot. i learned tons of stuff again but i dont know if ill remember the trig. My sister tried to teach me but i'm like Boro. i LOVED the comuniction games! Kit was sad and happy. Mati REALLY learned things about Rini and Toli with the wolf. the FOX was my very favorit!
