Bobby, a year younger, looked up from breaking sticks for the campfire. "What's in that thing?"
Before Rosemary could speak, Ashley appeared on the trail from her house, easily leapt over a fallen log, and slipped her own light go-bag from her back.
Jeremy arrived with an arm-load of branches for the fire, dropped them onto the pile, and looked at Rosemary's bulging bag. "You carried that all the way here?"
Rosemary looked defiant. "When the world ends, I wanna have my stuff!"
Ashley sat down to help Bobby with the fire. "When, exactly, do you think the world's gonna end, Rosemary?"
The girl's defiant look softened a little as she searched her memory. "December something this year. I saw it on TV!"
The other three paid attention while Rosemary proudly brought out everything she thought she would need to survive several natural disasters, World War III, and the End of the World.
Jeremy picked up a can of pork and beans. "I bet all the water in that can - about 95% of the weight - was pretty heavy."
The 12-year-old girl cringed. ...

Some retailers list slightly higher page counts. They are counting all the pages of the book, while we only list the number of pages in the body of the book.
* ZIP files are necessary because many browsers get confused when the file type is unknown, and most computers are not familiar with the PRC and EPUB file types. Opening a ZIP file (directly, or with a utility like WinZip) allows the file inside to be extracted, or copied and pasted elsewhere.
Some browsers save downloaded files to strange places on your computer, and it can be hard to find them. Right-Clicking or Option-Clicking, then selecting Save As, allows more control over the save location.
The PRC or EPUB file can then be copied to the Books or Documents folder of your ebook reader (connected by USB cable), or emailed to your ebook reader. Usually, the ebook reader must then be restarted. With Kindle for PC, just open the PRC file.
